FDC were appointed head contractor for the redevelopment of the Goulburn Aquatic & Leisure Centre project located in the historically established Victoria Park gardens of Goulburn.
Under a Design and Construct contract, the project involved the complete demolition of the original aquatic building and construction of the comprehensive new building facilities. The new centre facilities are a significant upgrade and expansion for the Goulburn community, delivering a contemporary, state-of-the-art facility for Goulburn residents and greater NSW regional area to enjoy year-round.
The redevelopment represents an immense improvement of the original facility, with key features including:
The 5,498sqm facility is topped off with a 200kq solar system that’s capable of offsetting approximately 248 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year. To make the most of the solar energy produced, the pools filtration system is set to operate in the middle of the day – while the panels are generating at their peak.
The facilities offer a single level concourse to maximise safety, accessibility and efficiency supporting swimmers of all abilities and ages, with learn to swim program pools. The Hydrotherapy pool includes a ceiling hoist that safely removes people directly from the changeroom, into the pool for swimmers of limited mobility. It’s one of only a handful of centres in the state with this feature and a significant asset to the local regional community.
With highly functional and flexible architecture, the new centre caters to the entire Goulburn community bringing together accessibility, indoor heated pools for year-round swimming, gym and cafe, which was paramount to the locals through their input to the project.
