The Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) is a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation with over 600 staff, providing services to some five million Victorians.

With a continued need to upgrade the emergency services in Victoria, ESTA appointed FDC for the upgrade and fitout of an existing building with an Emergency Communications Calltaking & Dispatch operational centre.

The 3,500sqm fitout over two levels of a three storey building included a control room, training rooms, meeting rooms, a gymnasium, quiet rooms, an IT build room and a 500sqm comms and UPS room. This room was the core part of the project – containing a raised floor, 5 CRAC Units (all operating 24/7), dual UPS, a fire suppression system and 65 communication racks – its function being to service a vast quantity of data and electrical equipment with extensive capabilities.

To ensure there was adequate power supply for a future tenant on Level 1 within the building, a new main switch board was designed and installed two weeks prior to practical completion being issued. All services were commissioned within that same two week period.
