Project Description

Smith & Nephew develops and markets advanced medical devices. This project consisted of the stripout and demolition of an existing warehouse facility to make way for a two floor, 5,000sqm office and warehouse.

In addition to the base building upgrade that was required on behalf of the building owner, Smith & Nephew engaged FDC under a design and construct contract to provide a purpose built facility to operate as their medical equipment distribution centre, training facility, and Sydney head office.

The fitout included building a new steel structure within the warehouse which now houses a ‘technical workshop’ set up as a fully functional operating theatre and is used for local and global training of medical professionals. A state of the art audio visual system was installed to connect the technical workshop to both the in-house training rooms and the outside world. The remaining warehouse space was then populated with pallet racking, packing benches, segregated storage / shelving areas and staff amenities.

The office fitout consisted of new offices, workstations, kitchens, training rooms, a computer room, IT build room, and reception area.

With a tight programme and critical relocation dates for warehouse equipment the client was delighted to move in on time and within budget. Three FDC divisions, FDC Fitout, FDC Mechanical Services and FDC Technologies, combined to overcome the inherent challenges of a technically difficult D&C project that required detailed coordination of services and controlled sequenced installation.
