Oil Search is an oil and gas exploration and development company that has been operating in PNG since 1929, and is now their largest oil and gas producer operating all oil and gas fields in current production.
FDC recently completed the fitout of Oil Search’s head office located on three levels at 1 Bligh Street, Sydney, extending to approximately 5,000sqm. The fitout design was sympathetic to the unusual building shape, with all the walls and surfaces curved; there was not a straight wall or straight piece of joinery installed. Each floor has a centrally placed elliptical room clad in various veneers to simulate layers of the earth’s core. Coming off each of these rooms, are a number of round meeting rooms which incorporate 40% curved plasterboard and 60% curved glass with sliding curved glass doors. Each meeting room is clad internally with acoustic wall boards to reduce reverberation.
The 14 week project incorporated the installation of a client access area with new reception; workspaces; catering kitchen; boardroom; executive office and meeting rooms with stone tiled floors; a mini data centre; gymnasium and shower facilities. Of particular note is the interconnecting spiral staircase which has an appearance of an auger drill bit – used in the search for oil.
