Project Description

Macquarie University Sports and Aquatic Centre caters to the student population of Macquarie University and the general public, providing a full range of gymnasium services including strength, cardio, squash, basketball and two Olympic sized swimming pools. With over 7,000 members they are one of the largest gyms in the area.

FDC was engaged to carry out an extension to the current facility which comprised of a new strength training area and a mezzanine group fitness room including a specialized timber sports floor. During the course of these works FDC was also engaged to undertake a fitout and upgrade of the gym’s existing cardio area including the construction of a brand new cycle studio, and to replace an existing 700sqm timber floor with a World Badminton Association accredited sports floor.

The gymnasium remained fully operational throughout the entire construction process meaning certain works had to be coordinated and timed to ensure minimal disruption to the gym’s patrons and staff.

In addition to establishing and maintaining an excellent relationship with the University across all levels of management, FDC’s ongoing communication with the University proved instrumental in achieving an excellent outcome for both parties.
