FDC was engaged to construct a warehouse, machine and fitting shop and a boilermakers’ area. The building consists of a 4,000sqm factory and a 600sqm office. It was essential that the construction be split into three stages.
Due to the size and weight of the vessels being manufactured, heavy duty overhead cranes had to be installed, which had an impact on the structure of the building requiring the structural steel to be three times heavier than would have been installed in an ordinary warehouse of this size.
The office design proved to be challenging due to the requirements of the proposed unique working environment. This office required a hard wearing surface whilst still being aesthetically pleasing so polished concrete was used to achieve the design requirements.
The fitout involved a large amount of glass with first class joinery, fixtures and fittings, which resulted in an A grade office fitout.
