FDC (SA) have recently completed the construction of Christie Downs Primary School Disability Unit and Upgrade. The scope of works was to construct a new disability unit building and upgrade of an existing learning area in Building 1 (ongoing), as well as secure play areas to both and large landscaping upgrade inclusive of new play equipment. External finishes are a mixture of sustainable and pre-finished products. 500mm thick rammed earth walls form the major superstructure elements and the remaining cladding is COLORBOND® and Cemintel sheeting.

Rammed earth also plays a major role internally, and remains exposed in the GLA and common areas across the entire building. Raked ceilings and skylights upon the space up to immense volumes of natural light, and the addition of solid plywood wall linings, feature ceilings and joinery finishes add to the warmth of the building. Neutral pastel
colours are implemented to ensure the sensitive nature of the children occupying the space is front of mind.
