FDC have commenced construction of IKEA’s first purpose built distribution centre in Australia located at Sydney Business Park Precinct, Marsden Park.

The distribution centre will serve all IKEA stores throughout the country as well as IKEA’s new online store that will be launched in Australia later this year.

The structural frame of the warehouse is made up of approximately 2,200 tonnes of structural steel and over 105 kilometres of roof purlins and wall girts to support the 100,000sqm of roof / wall sheeting. A combination of syphonic roof drainage and conventional storm water systems will disperse run-off water into a 1,700sqm bio retention basin for filtration purposes.

The completed distribution centre will include a 1,300sqm office and 70,000sqm of warehouse space, which is split up between 58,000sqm of low bay and 12,000sqm of high bay warehouse storage areas. The 12,000sqm high bay warehouse will consist of IKEA’s first fully automated storage and retrieval system in Australia which will house around 65,000 pallets alone and will stand at approximately 35m high.

The 13 month project is due for completion in June 2017.
