After lying dormant for over 40 years, the White Bay Power Station has undergone extensive conservation and remediation works.
The overall project scope was initially divided into two packages, Package 1B and Package 2, which comprised of extensive works, includes but is not limited to:
Following these works, Package 3 was awarded which focused around the activation and enabling public access to key areas such as the Turbine Hall, Boiler House and External Forecourt areas. Works involved in this package include:
The complex consists of a broad range of building materials, often experimental when originally built, including massed concrete walls (1924) and 4-storey glazing (1957), and which required specialist conservation attention.
The works conducted under this project have ensured that State Heritage-listed White Bay Power Station is secured for the long term as an important venue that will remain publicly accessible for many years to come, and that the site can be considered one of Sydney’s grand public buildings and venues.
