FDC completed the construction of a new retail outlet for IKEA at the corner of Richmond Road and Hollinsworth Road, Marsden Park (NSW).
The 76,000sqm project included the construction of a 28,000sqm retail store, showroom and market hall areas, children’s play area, Swedish food market, customer and co-worker restaurants (seating approx. 450 people), warehouse and goods unloading areas, 650sqm of net lettable office space, HV substation and back-up generator and a further 33,000sqm of external car parking for 818 cars, internal roads, pavements and landscaping.
This single level bulky goods, retail and mixed use facility is the first of its kind for IKEA in Australia and will be used as a model store for similar future stores in Australia.
FDC was presented with the challenge of coordinating the base building design to simultaneously suit IKEA’s strict global requirements yet comply with local building regulations. The building has a gross floor area of approximately 28,000sqm.
The 42 week project was delivered in conjunction with architects Leffler Simes; structural engineer, Northrop; civil engineer, ACOR Consultants; electrical engineer WSP; mechanical engineer, Erbas and hydraulic engineer, Wood & Grieve.
IKEA are currently completing the internal fitout works with the store set to open in coming months.
FDC were able to deliver the project ahead of all contract dates for early access and practical completion, and to the high standards expected by the client.
